Impression of ASUS Ultrabook (Zenbook UX21E)
I bought an ultrabook from ASUS, UX21E-KX128. I plan to use it as a sensor-base. I’m a long-time Mac user, but it’s convenient to use Windows-based PC to connect to sensors via Bluetooth. I don’t need to buy an high-spec PC, so I decided to buy a zenbook which is light in terms of weight and cost. Additionally, I thought it may be amusing to have both macbook air and zenbook (looks similar to MBA).
In terms of spec, zenbook isn’t bad at least for me. My requirement is almost satisfied with it. It’ equipped with bluetooth (required to connect to accelerometer), SSD, 4GB memory slot, and ultra low voltage Core i7 CPU. Thats’s enough for me.

It was delivered. OK, I open it.

As well as MBA, I must use an adaptor to connect to the Internet by wire. In the box, there are a small sack (for LAN adaptor) and a big sack (for laptop). Looks cheap.

The shape is very similar to MBA. It is very thin.

Its display frame is somewhat thik, but no problem. Keyboard is flimsy although I have no problem with typing. Touchpad isn’t comfortable for me. I often make a mistake to do “left-crick” (my thumb is short?).

The surface of palm-rest looks good.
I think the problem of this laptop is its battery life. ASUS officially claims it can work for five hours. But, it probably can do for 3 hours. Needless to say, battery-life is essential for mobile note. Particularly, I must use Wi-Fi for Internet connection, so electric power tends to be run quickly. Zenbook has come after MBA. Thus, ASUS should have seriously thought about battery-life.
In summary, ASUS Zenbook isn’t bad one. However, it makes it clear to me that MBA is still quality laptop.
